Good nutrition is for everyone!


Eating healthy is not as hard as people think it may be. Especially if one looks at food
not just as an energy source that one needs to survive. Being healthy also means eating
a variety of foods, eating balanced meals and adequate amounts. Eating healthy also
mean consuming seasonal and regional foods, even if most foods are available all
year round.

The German Nutrition Association, "Die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung" recommends
10 rules for maintaining healthy nutrition. These rules should not be seen as strict guide-
lines that one must follow, instead as tips that make eating fun and tasty.

Listed below are a few tips that the German Nutrition Association recommends and which
are easy to incorporate in your life:

Eat a variety - a colorful plate of foods means you are eating different vitamins
and minerals

Try eating "5 a Day" - that means 3 fruits and 2 vegetables each day

Eat lots of whole grains and potatoes each day - they are not only low in fat but
contain lots of vitamins and minerals

What is a portion size? Take a look at your hand, what fits on it is considered
one portion size. This apply's to all foods

Eat low fat dairy and dairy products daily

When purchasing foods look at the fat content
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.
Drink plenty of low calorie liquids throughout the day, at least 2 liters per day
should be consumed

Prepare your foods using fresh herbs and spices, not just with salt.

Take time to enjoy your meals, don't rush!

Make sure you exercise 30 minutes each day - such as taking a brisk walk or
riding your bike

If you follow these tips you can maintain a healthy weight, prevent diseases linked to
poor nutrition and live healthier.
